While the Tokyo Motor Show is a stage for the world's manufacturers to strut their production models, the Tokyo Auto Salon allows designers and engineers to stretch their legs with custom hardware. This year, Mazda is bringing 10 special models to the Tokyo Auto Salon, including a custom version of the recently-released CX-5.

The custom CX-5 wears special paint, a lowered ride height and unique wheels for a significantly sportier appearance. Likewise, the company's Demio also receives a little attention, and visitors to the show can expect to see the Demio 13 Skyactiv Smart Stylish bow alongside the CX-5. The pint-sized hatch makes use of a few aero treatments including a front underspoiler, side skirts and rear underskirt.

The new Axela Skyactiv will also be on display, complete with a body kit of its own, along with a sharp-looking set of wheels. Visitors can take a closer look at a pair of custom Roadster models as well, including the Black Tuned version and a racing-spec version called the Jimba-Ittai, or Rider and Horse as one. Mazda planning EV for U.S. market by 2018

We don't have a clue what 2018 has in store for us, but automakers' product plans extend well into the future, giving us a glimpse of what may or may not come. Automotive News reports that Mazda is planning to offer an electric vehicle in the United States by 2018, in part to satisfy California's zero-emissions vehicle requirements.

Mazda engineer Mitsuru Fujinaka reportedly told AN that the regulations make a U.S.-bound EV a near certainty, adding, "otherwise, we can't sell in California." And since California has the highest population of any state in the Union, we're thinking Mazda doesn't want to lose such a huge market. Of course, 2018 is more of a deadline than a target, so it's possible that Mazda could offer an EV in the U.S. before then.

The U.S.-bound Mazda EV may be a long way away, but that doesn't mean the automaker doesn't already have electrification plans underway in its home country. In the spring, Mazda will begin leasing an all-electric version of the Demio (the Mazda2 in the U.S.), which offers a range of 124 miles and a top speed of 87 miles per hour. The Demio will be a lease-only affair with a planned monthly take rate in the three-digit territory. The Demio EV can fast charge in 30 minutes, and a full charge takes about eight hours.

Mazda has told us over and over again that everything it has learned from the Miata project has directly influenced its new products. Case in point: the Mazda2. In my recent search for a car I first met/chatted with Karen online. She was easy to chat with and very courteous and not pushy but informative. After chatting with her online I couldn't help but want to make a trip to the dealership to work with her. My wife works for a dealership so I pretty much know how the ins and outs of buying a car. Normally, I would buy through this dealership, as I would get the best deal possible, however they don't sell the type of vehicle I was looking for. I really wasn't completely sure of what I wanted but I did know some specifics in the car I was looking for. I literally searched several hours (sometimes all day on my off days from work) of every day for over a month. I have visited numerous dealerships from Tracy to Roseville (I live in Lodi) and spoken with probably over 50 salesman/saleswoman. Needless to say I have done my research. After everyone I've dealt with and even salesman that I know personally from my wife's dealership I have to say that Karen is the one person I would love to purchase a car from. I can't tell you how many times that I told my wife that I just wanted to drive up there and get a car from her because she is so good and easy to work with. Obviously in this profession there are good sales people, bad sales people, and very bad sales people and she is definitely among the best. All in all I did end up buying a car from a private party. It was an extremely great deal but not what I really wanted, however I couldn't pass it up. I did sincerely thank Karen for all of her work and tell her that I intend to come directly to her first and foremost for any future car purchases (probably next year as I will pass this car on to my son and need a new one...and I will get what I want this time...lol). I will HIGHLY recommend her to any and everyone as she represents the type of sales person that everyone would like to buy from. I look forward to many years of continued purchases through her. Near painless buying experience. Bought a 2012 Mazdaspeed 3 from these folks. Omar and Anthony made buying the car easy by getting right to point on the price. No games like other dealers I've dealt with. After working out a fair trade-in price on my old car the process just rolled along with no pressure to up-sell me on useless accessories. Great closing as well, after purchasing Omar went over the car with me and its various functions, not every dealer does this. Also this dealer throws in a 10yr/100K powertrain warranty which is probably worth over $1K if you buy it yourself. All in all a great buying experience.

If the Mazda2 needs anything, it's a little more pep in its step. Mazda has moved to address that ail with the SEMA 2011 Turbo2 Concept. Boasting a direct-injection 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the small hatch is crammed with 263 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Those are the kinds of figures that are sure to slather a grin across your face, especially given that Mazda has managed to trim the concept's weight down to a skinny 2,300 pounds. Mazda also reminds us that this vehicle wears the company's largest forced-induction four-cylinder engine in its smallest vehicle platform. Zoom-Zoom indeed.

The Turbo2 Concept rocks a set of Brembo brakes to bring the whole party to a stop in a hurry, and the suspension has received its fair share of attention as well. HR coilovers, Corksport sway bars front and rear and Yokohama rubber all help keep the tiny hatch glued to the track. In fact, if this is all looking rather serious for a showcar, that's because it is - this car was built by the folks at Autobarn for use in One Lap of America with blessings from the Japanese automaker, though it has since been the recipient of a splashy new look.

So, will we see a version of it production? There's always a chance that Mazda will give the world a Mazdaspeed2 to chew on. In the meantime, if you can't wait and want this exact car, Autoblog reader Pete L. notes that it's for sale by the Autobarn folks, though it's a costly little number: $94,999. Eek.

We're pretty smitten with the Flyin' Miata story at Targa Newfoundland, and not just because they offered us a seat in their supercharged Grand Touring Class entry. Husband and wife team Keith and Janel Tanner managed a 16th place finish in their 1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata in the event back in 2008, and this year, they're coming to the fight with a fire-breathing V8 conversion at their disposal. The tale is interesting enough to have snagged the ear of a filmmaker who wants to bring the Tanner story to the rest of the world.

Adam Costa has jumped onto the Flyin' Miata wagon for the long road to the checkered flag, and he's started a Kickstarter project to help fund the endeavor in hopes of being able to bring along an additional cameraman. You can donate anything from one dollar all the way up to $2,000 for various 'thank you' gifts, including an executive producer title in the film itself. A more reasonable $50 donation will land you a DVD copy of the film. Having had the pleasure of seeing Costa's work in Speed Science for the Science Channel, we don't think we'll be disappointed. Car buying is an emotional experience. I don't care what anyone says. It's emotional for the buyers and it's emotional for the sellers. I know, I've been both. With all the online websites designed to make money off of the car dealers, you find tips and advice and confessions and scary stories about all the horrible things that can happen when you go "swim with the sharks" - while car shopping, I figured I would try to help you understand the BEST way to approach the experience.

So here's the deal... there is some truth to the stories your read and at some dealerships you may fall into a place of being taken advantage of. However, not every dealership is operated the same way. It is important to remember that fact. Think about it... even Starbucks and Subway's have some subtle differences.

Nissan of Elk Grove, Mazda of Elk Grove and Infiniti of Elk Grove are owned and operated by a very good man. His philosophies ring in everyone's ears... when something happens we all seem to ask ourselves... "What would John do?"... that answer is take care of the customer.

So I apparantly blog the same way I talk... pretty un-edited and I circle around a number of points until I finally tie it together is a sweet little wrapped package with a fancy bow :) The purpose of this is to share some good tips on how to prepare.... so here it goes:

Go ahead and get excited!!! It is absolutely ok to want things you don't need. Be realistic about it though and don't go too overboard with the wants. Clearly define the things you NEED and the things you WANT... make a list and decide where you can compromise.

Set a budget for yourself. That whole champagne taste and beer budget comes into play during an automotive purchase... there are a whole bunch of high tech gadgets on vehicles that can add up pretty quickly. So make sure you know what you can actually afford.

Make an appointment to drive the vehicle you are interested in. Week-days are the best time to get the most personal attention and save yourself time and money.

Contrary to most beliefs - don't wait until the last day of the month to decide. Early on in the month there are some "fast-start" competitions and the team really will do what they can to make it happen.

You are the one who will be making this payment for the next 3 - 6 years. So it's ok to get some stuff you want! You be the judge.
If you want all the gadgets... consider pre-owned instead of new.

Consider leasing if your driving habits are suitable. I find that most of the time I get bored and want something new every 2 - 3 years. I happen to live in the town I work in and don't put many miles on my cars... I learned the hard way that rolling over loans into new loans is not the best idea. So I lease now and couldn't be happier!

Initially I figured I would blog about the car side of things. I thought - wouldn't it be nice to share some helpful tips about car purchases and recommendations for extending the life of your vehicles? The reality is, after just beginning this blogging process, I've discovered that these first few items are about teaching people how to be better customers.

We train and train and train our team members on how to be the best possible customer service representatives possible. What has happened recently - due in part for the heat and stress of the economy - is that our clients need some training in patience and understanding, and in basic common courtesy.

There are MANY factors that come into play when it comes to getting service done on your cars and trucks, as well as the very basic point of getting the parts ordered and delivered in a timely manner. You see, what our clients may not understand is that just because a part is broken on their car, it isn't always in stock at the dealership.

The mechanic diagnoses the problem, they communicate to the service advisor who communicates to you. You need to verbally approve the work to be done. The parts department is then notified and they search their data base to determine if the specific parts are in stock. If they are not, the next step is to search other local area Nissan dealers to see if they have the part. If they do not, we must order the parts from the factory. The program will search the main warehouses - starting with the closest - and if the parts are not at the main warehouses corporate Nissan/ Infiniti or Mazda lets us know when the estimated time of availability is. At the dealership level, we have ZERO control of the manufactured parts. We get a catalog and multiple resources. The good news is, in best cases, the parts are available next day. In most cases, 3 - 7 days, and in a worst case scenario - the order is placed and we are left at the mercy of the manufacturing plants.

Now... I know .... some of you may think that this would sound like an excuse. Especially if you were given the initial 3 working days response. This is where some basic human etiquette comes into play. Have you ever heard that PATIENCE is a VIRTUE? People have come to a place in this world where we insist on immediate gratification. I am among you. I don't even like waiting for a new browser window to open up. I've learned, some things in life you simply cannot control.

You may ask ... what can I control? Well the simple answer is you completely control how you CHOOSE to react to a situation. I guess if you feel like a better person, or feel like you accomplished something by ranting and raving and yelling and complaining and blaming and accusing someone who answers the phone where you are doing business, then the only person who may FEEL better is you, but in the larger scheme of things, you my friend are adding to the negativity in the world. If you can think backwards before placing a call - decided what is the main objective that you would like to accomplish - then work together with the team members who are available to assist you - everyone will walk away from the conversation in a positive way ending with your concerns being addressed.

There are times where people make mistakes.

Nothing is done in a malicious way.

No one is "out to get you".

We are all just people working to feed our families. Working in a business of service. So to re-iterate my last blog... c'mon now.... Be Nice!

Life in the car biz is definately interesting. It's one of those professions where people either love you .... or hate you. I think in some study they determined that car salesmen were just a little above lawyers... but in their "defense" (pardon the pun)... when you need one... you certainly hope to find the best one out there.

I have had the absolute honor of working for one of the BEST owners in this car world. His philosophy. when boiled down to the core is simply... DO THE RIGHT THING. I believe in that statement whole-heartedly, and many of our team feels the same way.

I wanted to just put this out there ... just talking strait. No-one who works in the industry wants your car to break. No one wants you and your family to be stranded on the side of the road. No one wants your AC to stop blowing cold air when it's 104 degrees outside. No one wants to call you and tell you that the APR from the bank is higher than we thought we could secure. None of us want to tell you "We cannot duplicate that noise". Everyone of us has family, moms, dads, sisters, sons, daughters ect... and when you choose to do business with us -unless your family is disfunctional - you can expect to be treated the same way we treat our blood relatives.

It's important to stop sometimes when you are in the middle of a crisis - and broken cars and sometimes the anxious stress involved with buying a car count as a crisis - you should try to remain calm and remember that you are interacting with people who come to work to try and help you - not hinder you.

Treat the people who work here with respect and kindness and you will find that it's like looking in the mirror - that is exactly what you will get back.

The Mazda2 is long, long overdue. In other parts of the world, the subcompact has been wowing its owners with its fun-to-drive quotient and fuel efficiency. Throw in the smiley-faced grille, paint it a vibrant Spirited green and it shouts its presence to the world. For anyone looking for a head-turning car that does not cost an arm, leg and first-born, the new Mazda2 fits the bill -- it is impossible to prowl about town with any sort of anonymity.

The Mazda2 also comes with some pleasant surprises. First, it is remarkably roomy given its subcompact dimensions -- it is just 3,950 millimetres in length, although it rides on a generous 2,489-mm wheelbase. This latter measurement makes the difference. Up front, there's plenty of head and shoulder room, as well as enough rearward movement in the seats to accommodate a taller driver. The rear seat can be a little tight, especially if the front seats are fully rearward, but, again, for a small car, the space is admirable. Its ability to accommodate four adults in relative comfort certainly surprised me.

Obviously, being a hatchback, the Mazda2 comes with plenty of versatility.
With the rear seats in the upright position, the 2 offers up 13.3 cubic feet of space. Drop the seats down and volume grows to 27.8 cu. ft. There are also cubbies galore, the liftover is low and the hatch opening is larger and nicely squared off. There is, however, one oversight -- the seats don't fold flat or tumble forward out of the way. As a result, a larger box tends to teeter-totter on the folded seatback.

The Mazda2's interior design picks up on the perky exterior. It is attractive and the materials are pretty good (especially the piano black and silver inserts). Likewise, the front seats are very accommodating; the base and backrest bolsters deliver the sort of support expected of something far sportier. As for the rest of it, the comfort and convenience items are all in place. The air is conditioned and the audio package is solid, although it needs a USB input to go with the input jack.

It all comes together such that there really are only two minor beefs.
First, the most obvious cost-cutting measure is the flimsy fresh air/recirculation lever. Second, the hatch has a quirk I learned to dislike.

It's electric lock mechanism takes about a second or so to cycle. If the hatch does not shut the first time, one has to wait until it clicks or risk leaving it ajar -- which I did repeatedly.
As for power, the Mazda2 has enough. No, the 1.5-litre four-cylinder's 100 horsepower and 98 pound-feet of torque are not going to knock anyone's socks off, but it delivers a surprisingly sprightly turn of speed (the car weighs only 1,075 kilograms). If you don't mind stirring your own gears, the standard manual gearbox makes better use of the power. The advantage is that it comes with five speeds. The optional automatic ($1,100), which has an overdrive on/off button, makes do with four.

The tester arrived with the auto box. It slipped through the gears in a seamless fashion, but accessing the engine's meat requires the driver to take a pretty big whip to the gas pedal. Under these conditions, the Mazda2 boasts decent off-the-line performance and reasonable mid-range pep -- zero to 100 kilometres an hour takes about 10.5 seconds, which is enough for the cut and thrust of the morning commute. However, the engine gets a little busy at highway speeds, revving away at around 3,000 rpm at 110 km/h.

Where the little 2 comes into its own is with the zoom-zoom engineered into the suspension, making the car both comfortable and sporty at the same time.

The setup is fairly basic (MacPherson struts up front and a twist beam in the rear), but it has been tuned to limit body roll without beating up the occupants. Kudos for the steering's feel and feedback, too. It is nicely weighted and keeps the driver up to speed when pushing the limits. The latter is somewhat of a rarity, as the Mazda2 uses an electrically assisted system. The Mazda2's P185/55R15 tires then deliver the desired lateral grip.

Beyond that, the anti-lock brakes deliver both plenty of stopping power and an easily modulated pedal. Ditto the electronic stability/traction control --
it stays out of the picture until there is a real need for intervention. The likable part is that the Mazda2 darts wherever the driver points it. At this end of the price ladder, there are few cars that are as nimble or as much fun to drive.

It took Mazda a long time to bring the 2 to Canada. The wait was worth it.

FISKER AUTOMOTIVE TAKES POSESSION OF FORMER GM FACTORY TO BUILD PLUG-IN HYBRIDS

IRVINE, CA – July 19, 2010: American automaker Fisker Automotive today finalized its purchase of a former GM factory where it will build plug-in hybrid electric vehicles.

The southern California-based company is now in full possession of the 3.2 million square foot Wilmington Assembly plant in Wilmington, Delaware, for which it paid Motors Liquidation Company (MLC) $20 million. MLC is the holding company formed by General Motors Corporation’s bankruptcy.

The purchase is supported by a $528.7 million Department of Energy loan for the development of two lines of plug-in hybrids.

The Wilmington plant will be home to Project NINA, Fisker’s second line of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, and where Fisker expects to ultimately create more than 2,000 factory jobs.

“This is a major step toward creating thousands of manufacturing jobs and restoring America as a leader in the global auto industry,” said Bernhard Koehler, COO, Fisker Automotive. “Wilmington will be instrumental in fulfilling our plans to export more than half of Fisker premium plug-in hybrid production to global markets.”

Fisker announced its intent to acquire the idled factory in October 2009. A federal bankruptcy judge approved the sale last month.

The Wilmington Assembly plant opened in 1947 and produced more than 8.5 million vehicles before closing in mid 2009.

- Pool of 115,000 registrants gains first priority -

In response to strong consumer demand, Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) will
begin taking reservations for the Nissan LEAF zero-emission, all-electric
vehicle on April 20. The reservation process is a first step in securing a
place on the list to purchase or lease a Nissan LEAF. The Nissan LEAF begins
rolling out to select markets in December, and will be widely available in
2011.

In the United States, more than 115,000 people have formalized their
interest in driving a Nissan LEAF by signing up for more information on
NissanUSA.com. These registrants will be given priority in the reservation
process. Consumers must be registered on NissanUSA.com by the end of today
in order to be eligible for the early reservation process. Reservations will
open to the general public on May 15.

"Early interest in the Nissan LEAF has been highly encouraging," said Brian
Carolin, senior vice president, sales & marketing, NNA. "People from across
the country have raised their hands to be among the first to drive home a
Nissan LEAF. Consumers are pledging broad support for the first affordable
electric vehicle for the mass market."

RESERVATIONS

Priority reservation instructions will be sent to early registrants by email
between 1-6 pm EDT on April 20. The email will include an exclusive link
enabling each person to start the reservation process.
Through the link, the customer will create an account, configure his or her
vehicle, and answer questions to complete a driving profile.
Consumers will be asked to pay by credit card a $99 reservation fee, which
is fully refundable.
After placing a reservation, a customer will be able to indicate a preferred
dealer.
Consumers who reserve a Nissan LEAF will receive confirmation numbers.
Nissan will provide individual updates for their reservations by June 30.
Reservations are limited to one per household.
Consumer inquiries about the reservation process can be answered at the
Nissan LEAF call center, 1-877-664-2738.

April 20 also marks the date for the debut of a new website on NissanUSA.com
to support the launch of the Nissan LEAF. The website will continue to serve
as a resource about the most up-to-date information for the Nissan LEAF,
including upcoming special events.

Including the $7,500 federal tax credit for which the Nissan LEAF will be
fully eligible, the consumer's after-tax net value of the vehicle will be
$25,280. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price *(MSRP) for the 2011
all-electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF is $32,780. Additionally, there is
an array of state and local incentives that may further defray the costs,
and increase the benefits, for owning and charging a Nissan LEAF. For
example, a $5,000 statewide tax rebate is offered in California; a $5,000
tax credit in Georgia; a $1,500 tax credit in Oregon; and carpool-lane
access in some states, including California. The lease price for the Nissan
LEAF begins at $349 per month.

In North America, Nissan's operations include automotive design,
engineering, consumer and corporate financing, sales and marketing,
distribution and manufacturing. Nissan is dedicated to improving the
environment under the Nissan Green Program 2010, whose key priorities are

Last night my husband & I purchased a 2010 Maxima (Our second Maxima). Eric Ruggberg was our salesperson. Service is great! I usually don't get my car serviced at the dealership that it was purchased from; however, you cannot beat the service at their service department. You can book everything online. The service representatives are always friendly and helpful. They even remind me about my coupons. You can tell they have your best interest in mind. My favorite service representative is Cruz, but last time John helped me and he was great.

on the day i went to purchase a new car Tommy Davis(our sales rep) was very understanding of our situation. Nissan was the first dealership we went to in the elk grove auto mall. when i got out of my car, Tommy did not ambush or overwelm me. He gave me time to get my mind in the right place and not feel like i was being rushed through cars and paper work. out of all the car dealerships and sales reps we met that day, Tommy Davis was the only person that shook our hands and introduced himself and listened to our needs and criteria. he always had a smile and was very accomindating. after visiting the rest of the car dealerships(from hell) I went right back to Nissan and Tommy Davis. when we walked back in Tommy was helping another costumer with a test drive. when he saw us coming back in, he asked if we wanted to have him help us or another sales rep. when i said him, he immdiatly asked another person to help the other costomers and came back to us. when he came back he was still helpful and not full of himself( like alot of the other sales reps). when we said we wanted to retest the cube, he got the keys and said lets go for a ride. he let me make the decisions on were we went and let me test everything the way i wanted to. we checked the car out and he answered all our questions truthfully. once we decided to buy the car, he did everything he could to get me into my car. now i had a bankrupcy, and he still got into a new 2009 cube for under 17,000, and this car comes with alot of great aspects. if i was to rate Nissan and Tommy Davis, I would rate them at an 11 out of 10. I recommend, Nissan to anyone.

All of my questions and problems were resolved. This is the only dealership

While my daughter and I were looking for a new car we had been by EG Nissan several times. Each time we felt welcome despite the fact that we didn't buy for several months.
When the decision was made to buy, we knew exactly what we wanted in a vehicle (after my daughters extensive research). It was because of our previous encounters and the competitive prices that we return to EG Nissan to buy.
I had been watching competitive dealerships in Sacramento, Stockton and as far as Vacaville. EG Nissan was the best price everytime.
My daughter is extremely exciting and pleased with her car. I am pleased with the financing and crash test ratings on the Nissan Cube. I am very pleased with the EG Nissan team. In addition, there were a couple of minor cosmetic problems that needed to be fixed and we found these were prompted care for by the service dept.

I've been dealing with John for five years. I have always received great and fair service from him. I have the repairs done at the dealer because I feel like I am treated fairly and I have confidence that the work will be done right and if it isn't I know I have Nissan behind me. I will most likely buy another Maxima, and I would only look at another dealer to compare prices. If EGN wasn't competitive, I would buy elsewhere, but I would bring it to John for service for sure. I do talk to people about my great service and recommend EGN if someone is looking for a Nissan.

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (March 30, 2010) - Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA) today announced U.S. pricing for the 2011 Nissan LEAF electric vehicle, which becomes available for purchase or lease at Nissan dealers in select markets in December and nationwide in 2011. Nissan will begin taking consumer reservations for the Nissan LEAF April 20.

Including the $7,500 federal tax credit for which the Nissan LEAF will be fully eligible, the consumer's after-tax net value of the vehicle will be $25,280. The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price *(MSRP) for the 2011 all-electric, zero-emission Nissan LEAF is $32,780, which includes three years of roadside assistance. Additionally, there is an array of state and local incentives that may further defray the costs and increase the benefits of owning and charging a Nissan LEAF - such as a $5,000 statewide tax rebate in California; a $5,000 tax credit in Georgia; a $1,500 tax credit in Oregon; and carpool-lane access in some states, including California.

As a result of aggressive pricing and the availability of the $7,500 federal tax credit whose benefit is immediately included, Nissan will be able to offer a monthly lease payment beginning at $349, not including state or local incentives, which could further reduce the net cost of the Nissan LEAF.

"Imagine the possibility of never needing to go to a gas station again. Or of paying less than $3 for 100 miles behind the wheel. Or of creating zero emissions while driving," said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, Sales and Marketing, NNA. "Nissan leads the industry by offering the first affordable, zero-emission vehicle for the mass market. Nissan LEAF truly is in a class by itself."

The vehicle at the standard SV trim level is well-equipped with a variety of standard features, including an advanced navigation system and Internet/smart phone connectivity to the vehicle, including pre-heat/pre-cool and charging control. Nissan LEAF is equipped with energy-efficient LED headlights and makes extensive use of recycled and recyclable materials, such as seat fabric, instrument panel materials, and front- and rear-bumper fascias. Other standard amenities include Bluetooth connectivity; Intelligent-key with push button start; Sirius/XM satellite radio capabilities and roadside assistance. Safety features include vehicle dynamic control (stability control), traction control and six airbags. The SL trim level, available for an additional $940 (MSRP), adds features including rearview monitor, solar panel spoiler, fog lights, and automatic headlights.

Reservations & Purchase

In order to ensure a one-stop-shop customer experience, Nissan is carefully managing the purchase process from the first step, when consumers sign up HERE, until the customer takes the Nissan LEAF home and plugs it into a personal charging dock.

Nissan begins accepting reservations on April 20 first from people who have signed up on NissanUSA, and, after a brief introductory period, to all interested consumers.
Consumers will be required to pay a $99 reservation fee, which is fully refundable.
Reserving a Nissan LEAF ensures consumers a place in line when Nissan begins taking firm orders in August, as well as access to special, upcoming Nissan LEAF events.
Rollout to select markets begins in December, with nationwide availability in 2011.

Charging Equipment

In tandem with the purchase process, Nissan will offer personal charging docks, which operate on a 220-volt supply, as well as their installation. Nissan is providing these home-charging stations, which will be built and installed by AeroVironment, as part of a one-stop-shop process that includes a home assessment.

The average cost for the charging dock plus installation will be $2,200.
Charging dock and installation are eligible for a 50 percent federal tax credit up to $2,000.
Using current national electricity averages, Nissan LEAF will cost less than $3 to "fill up."
Nissan LEAF also will be the sole vehicle available as part of The EV Project, which is led by EV infrastructure provider eTec, a division of ECOtality, and will provide free home-charging stations and installation for up to 4,700 Nissan LEAF owners in those markets.
